Let’s chat with Jess

Hey everyone, I’m Jess! I'm a full-time mum of two beautiful girls (ages 3 & 5) and juggle my photography business around them! I currently do work through Creatively Squared and outside of that I do mostly lifestyle photography for local families .

I started out in photography mostly doing content creation when pregnant with my first daughter! From there I started doing maternity and newborn shoots for my closest friends on request. After my second daughter, I had my first Creatively Squared project and the rest is history!

My business grew slowly and organically which allows me to work as much or little as my lifestyle allows and I am still able to be with my girls full time.

My favourite genre in photography would definitely be lifestyle!! But I'd looove to put time into learning product photography. I love looking through the galleries created and shared on the Creatively Squared platform by all the other amazing creators! And the BTS action too, I think they are so inspiring!

If I were to describe my personal aesthetic, it would definitely be a bit beige! Jokes aside, coastal and neutral tones are my go-to but I do love a pop of colour here and there.

Journey with Creatively Squared

I first discovered Creatively Squared when the lovely Kate (the account manager) contacted me on Instagram!

I have so many enjoyable and challenging projects with Creatively Squared. I really enjoyed the Durex projects I worked on with another account manager, Daria. It was challenging for me as working with kids is much more in my comfort zone. It's always much easier when the focus is on kids rather than trying to make couples feel comfortable. But I had so much fun with it!

Tools of the trade

I use a Sony A3iii with a 50mm 1.8 lens mostly! I also use a tripod and for editing, I do it on Lightroom classic on my Macbook.

My favourite props or locations to work with would be any beach with some pampas and rocks to add interest and texture, and of course in my home.

Jess’ creative process

I make notes whenever I have a photoshoot, but a story board is such a great idea. I'm also a one woman band but my family are the best models; especially my partner & sister. My sister in particular been awesome jumping in to help me out, and recording time-lapses of us in action!

Whenever I want to get into the creative zone or overcome creative blocks, I generally will clean my home and enjoy a coffee!! Having a clear house clears my mind so I have space for creativity and coffee is just my favourite thing, especially being a mum!
